I'm truly disappointed for this not being the promised full Super Turrican version that Factor 5 has been mentioning all this years as being preserved and kept in their archives. This is not. It's a little more complete than the retail Super Turrican, yes, but it's still missing things. There was supposed to be a boss in 3-3 (now 3-4 with the introduction of a new 3-2 stage) which is still missing. This boss is, in fact, the same red grappling one you fight in 1-2 in Super Turrican 2, they reallocated it in that game because of being unable to introduce it in Super Turrican back in the day because of size constraints, but the boss still isn't there despite reports indicating it should have been there and even being an unused boss music for it still in the game code. The boss of 4-2 (the Alien train zone) which is present in Mega Turrican/Turrican 3, is still missing and it should be there. And most importantly, there should be a new level after 4-3 (or 4-4 if you count the Alien queen boss as a level itself) where you where supposed to fight The Machine, but it still isn't there. In the old Factor 5 website which still is around, you can see a template of sprites they did for the Virtual Console release of Super Turrican (you can see it here:
http://www.factor5.de/secrets_super_turrican.shtml) where there are at least three unused enemies/bosses: the red grappling boss which should be in 3-3/now 3-4, the Alien train boss of Mega Turrican/Turrican 3 which should be in 4-2, and a yellowish face with green eyes and open mouth which I pressume it was to be The Machine (even if it doesn't look quite like it) in that missing final showdown. And neither of these are present. I assume Factor 5 lost that 100% complete version long ago and this a little more complete one was everything they could preserve and come up with, which is truly a shame. At least the red grappling boss and the Alien train bosses could have been restored using the graphics/code from both Super Turrican 2 and Mega Turrican/Turrican 3 but I suppose doing that sort of hacking/programming would have been a great effort they weren't willing to do (maybe they don't even remember how to program their old games). Sadly I don't think we will ever see the true 100% Director's Cut version but oh well, at least this is better than nothing. PS: And without those, I still think that Mega Turrican/Turrican 3 is the superior game compared to this sort of alternative version using similar graphics/music/level assets that Super Turrican has always been.
