METAL GEAR MOVIE DIRECTOR WANTS FANS TO BE ABLE TO SAY: THEY DID IT, THAT’S MY METAL GEAR

February 21, 2017

During an interview with website Collider, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of the Metal Gear Solid movie, was asked for an update on the project. Vogt-Roberts answered they’re currently working on the script, not an easy task for a franchise with such a unique tone.

Luckily there are amazing producers on it, but that’s a property that is so pure and important to my soul, because it’s something that I grew up on, that I would love to shepherd into the film that it needs to be. I think it’d be a massive film, I think it’d be an incredible film, but it needs to be done in a way that completely honors what Metal Gear is because it’s a classic and it’s a seminal work not just in video games, but in media.”

The director notes how it’s interesting that Metal Gear had essentially one voice behind it all those years.

“For decades now Metal Gear Solid has essentially had one voice. So you’re dealing with a highly, highly specific property that’s idiosyncratic to one persona and one person’s point of view.”

Vogt-Roberts believes that the main thing they need to get right with the project is the tone.

“I think right now the more important thing is let’s nail the voice, let’s nail a story that makes sense. You look at the scope of the Metal Gear world and you go all the way back to the ‘60s and before that in the lore, and then you go to the more contemporary games in the near-future and stuff like that, you’re dealing with decades and decades and decades of characters. You’re dealing with like okay how do Snake and Boss interact, how does Zero and all these people interact with each other? How do you pick and choose the cyborg ninjas and the sniper wolfs and all these people and have them fit into a narrative that makes sense?”

Before thinking about budget, he wants to make a movie Metal Gear fans would be able to enjoy.

“So first and foremost beyond thinking about budget, I wanna find the version that someone like you who’s like a superfan of this property would say, ‘They did it. That’s my Metal Gear. That’s my shit.’ Beyond it being a video game movie, beyond the difference between active experience and passive experience and why people haven’t been able to translate an active experience into a good passive experience in the shape of a film, beyond that question to me it’s not even about being a video game movie, Metal Gear is an important story, an important set of characters. So it just needs to be approached right now from how we nail that, and once we nail that then budget questions will happen, then those things will happen down the road, but right now I’m just working with incredible producers and trying to make a version that you or a Metal Gear megafan would be proud of.”

Takes longos handheld. Aquela cena do metal gear ficando em pé e detonando toda infantaria enquanto o Big Boss corre é fenomenal

Director Vogt-Roberts: "When we were sitting down to think about the script at a certain point it was like, ‘is Cyborg Ninja in this movie or not?’ and the part of me that was a little kid was like, ‘there’s no world in which I’m ever going to make a Metal Gear movie that Cyborg Ninja is not going to be in'."

HIDEO KOJIMA’S ADVICE TO THE METAL GEAR SOLID MOVIE DIRECTOR: ‘DO THE SAME THING AS ME: BETRAY YOUR AUDIENCE’

June 15, 2017

At E3 Coliseum Hideo Kojima was interviewed by the director of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts. While most of the interview was focused on the importance of cinema on Kojima’s life and its influence on his work, the Metal Gear series was also discussed. At one point Vogt-Roberts asked how Kojima deals with criticism like the complaints about cutscene length in Metal Gear Solid 2.

“Of course I pay attention and listen to this.” Kojima responded. “But the way people evaluate your things changes with the times. When MGS2 came out a lot of people were upset with me. You know, people were like: ‘why is Raiden the main character, and the cutscenes are too long. […] I don’t understand what you’re trying to convey with this’. […] There are a lot more people that understand what I tried to make back then.”

FSthV6t.jpg

“People – and I also do this – will change their perception according to the times. So I think that sometimes, even if the perception is not good at that point, in the future (10, 20 years later) the perception might change. […] I try to keep this in mind when listening to people.”

Jordan asked if Kojima had any examples of him having an idea that no one gets at the time of explaining, only when it’s starting to take form. “Every time I think of a plan I explain what I’m thinking for the game system. The first people that I explain this to is my team. For Death Stranding, I also started by explaining a year ago to the team what I wanted to make. No one got it. Because I was trying to make something new, and something different. For me, I personally think that if people are opposed to you, then you’re on the right track.” Still, Kojima needed his team to understand what he was trying to make, so he kept explaining it day in and day out. “And while we move forward and do different experiments, little by little the team starts getting what I want to make. Right now what I wanted to achieve is already there and is working.” Kojima added, laughing: “My team, everyone is convinced: ‘we’re geniuses!’, and I was like, ‘no no, I thought of this’.”

At the end of the interview Jordan asked is Kojima had any advise to him as he moves forward with the Metal Gear Solid movie. “Do the same thing as me.” Kojima said, smiling. “Betray your audience.”

eu queria uns diretores tops e deixar eles colocarem o toque deles.

fico pensando quem q teria as bolas pra fazer algo bem feito.

Nem Lord of The Rings teve essa audácia.

Edit: Esqueci do Psycho Mantis, vacilo.
