What The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson Thinks About The Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer
The folks at Disney and Lucasfilm are still riding high off of the release of
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but now it's time to also look ahead to the next
Star Wars story on the
horizon. Specifically, we are referring to
Solo: A Star Wars Story, which recently dropped its
first trailer for the whole world to see. The debut of the film's first preview spurred many opinions online, and it looks like
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has one of his own. In fact, Johnson opened up during a recent interview and voiced his immense praise and excitement for the film, explaining:
"I knew it was coming, but I was still... I was clicking, clicking, clicking, 'yeah, yeah!' And I think it looks so beautiful. I can't wait for people to see more of the film -- it's so fun, it's so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it."
Rian Johnson has never made a secret of the fact that he's a full-blown
Star Wars fan. His ability to dive into the lore and
clap back at fans made that abundantly clear. In that regard, despite his status as a
Star Wars insider, it sounds like he was clicking the refresh button like many of us and waiting to see what the trailer had in store. To his delight, he told
Comicbook.com at the AARP Movies for Grownup Awards that the trailer offered up all of the humor, excitement, and charm that he wanted to see.
These comments from Rian Johnson may go a long way towards instilling confidence in the project for some, as
Solo: A Star Wars Story has left some fans with quite a bit of apprehension and uneasiness. The production of the
Star Warsspinoff was fundamentally changed last summer when Phil Lord and Chris Miller
were fired from the film, and the entire movie went in a different direction with the subsequent
hiring of Ron Howard to take their place.
It also arguably helps
Solo: A Star Wars Story to get the Rian Johnson seal of approval when we consider the nature of his long-term involvement in the series moving forward. The
Looper director dipped his toe into the water with
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but he will soon go all in on an entirely
new trilogy of his very own. He's now one of the go-to
Star Wars authorities for many fans, and his satisfaction with the trailer for Han Solo's movie may bode very well for the project.
Now that Rian Johnson and the rest of the world have had a chance to see the official trailer for
Solo: A Star Wars Story, we will have to wait and see what else Ron Howard and the film's cast have up their sleeves when the film finally
hits theaters later this year on May 25!
