FANS ARE NOT HAPPY WITH RIAN JOHNSON NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY
To many lifelong fans of the tales set ‘a long time ago in a galaxy far away’, Last Jedi director and writer, Rian Johnson, is now Star Wars’ greatest villain.
There are even social media pages springing up dedicated to venting spleens on all things Rian Johnson and Last Jedi. So the announcement that Johnson will create an entirely new Star Wars trilogy has not been warmly received by lifelong Star Wars fans who are still trying to get over the disappointment of the Last Jedi. In fact many fans are calling for the proposed trilogy to be scrapped.
Without doubt there has been a steady backlash to Rian Johnson’s effort at creating a Star Wars film and there is no better place to witness this than the comments on fan-based Star Wars YouTube channels.
YouTube and other social media platforms are awash with calls for this Johnson planned trilogy to be consigned to the dustbin.
Granted, all critical opinion is subjective, but the continued headlines about the Last Jedi backlash will probably feature more heavily on future Last Jedi Google searches than any positive spin Disney may have been hoping for…..meaning they have a problem with Rian Johnson.
Or do they? Well, it actually all depends on how Episode 9 unfolds. It is my opinion (and that of many fans) that the Last Jedi as a stand alone film just doesn’t work. But, has Rian Johnson done something that reaches conceptually beyond the film in it’s own right?
Is he extending the genre into the future and is this why Kathleen Kennedy has keenly supported him?
Will the Last Jedi become retrospectively Star Wars’s greatest film to date when contextualised by episode 9? And will this re-contextualised Last Jedi turn critics and naysayers from the dark side to the light?
The Last Jedi is an odd film and I mean it’s a very odd in all it’s plot choices and character treatment, leaving only two reasons for this.
Either Rian Johnson did create the singularly worst Star Wars film ever made, or the contentious decisions made on plot and character with the ensuing reactions from fans were carefully planned and factored in by both Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy as part of a longer term game plan.
Has the greatest feat of misdirection in the history of cinema just taken place?
So maybe Star Wars fans like me, who hated the Last Jedi as a stand alone film, should wait until after JJ Abrams’s episode 9 before passing armchair judgment on any new Rian Johnson trilogy.

Não concordo com esse artigo, porque está enchendo o ego do bundão Johnson até não poder mais. Maior vilão de Star Wars? Pffff, claro que não! Todo mundo sabe que esse papel pertence à megera (Kathleen Kennedy).
