In November, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński proposed its long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 will include online elements to ensure its long-term success. With this in mind, I ask the developer's co-founder Marcin Iwiński where he and his team stand with loot boxes—suggesting the controversial mechanic has dominated the conversation around single-versus-multiplayer games in the last 12 months.

"'Conversation' sounds way too nice to describe what was happening last year. I would rather call it community backlash," says Iwiński . "And this time around, it wasn’t just the hardcore community, there were a lot of really pissed off gamers out there and they decided to speak up. Where we stand is quite simple and you could see it with all of our past releases—most recently The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and GWENT. If you buy a full priced game, you should get a big, polished piece of content, which gives you many, many hours of fun gameplay.

"The definition of ‘many’ may vary on a title-by-title basis, but in our case it was always 50-60+ hours of the main story-line, with up to a couple of hundred of hours of side activities—if you really wanted to max out the title. To me, this is a fair deal. You get what you paid for, plus we are always trying our best to overdeliver. There is no better PR than a happy gamer recommending your title to their friends."

QZug6apPyXiZfPNUJd4hej-650-80.jpg

Iwiński continues: "Then there’s additional paid content. What we call Expansions (not DLC, mind you). Things like add-ons way back in the Baldur’s Gate era. We released two Expansions like that, and each of them was a meaningful piece of content delivering many hours of new story and gameplay. Finally, there are the DLCs. For us, they’re small pieces of content which should be available for free (and that was the case with TW3).

"The above covers full-price titles, but there’s also free-to-play territory. Here we have GWENT, where you can buy card kegs and some vanity items. Again, the deal is simple—you can play the game for free and craft your desired card collection this way, or decide to spend money and get card kegs. The choice is yours, and the only thing you pay for is time and convenience."

Iwiński emphasises the need for transparency from developers, and that information about their games should be readily available to players. Players can then make well-informed decisions with their money, and if they buy a full-priced game, says Iwiński, they should get "numerous hours of gameplay and a significant amount of content" for their cash.

"The moment they feel you are reaching out for their wallet in any unfair way, they will be vocal about it. And—frankly speaking—I think it's good for the industry," Iwiński adds. "Things often look great from a spreadsheet perspective, but decision makers often aren’t asking themselves the question of 'How would gamers feel, or is this offer a fair one?'. Gamers are striking back, and I really hope this will change our industry for the better."

CYBERPUNK 2077 IS 'MORE AMBITIOUS' THAN WITCHER 3,
CD PROJEKT RED SAYS

PC Gamer reports CD Projekt Red briefly discussed Cyberpunk 2077, comparing it to the company's critically acclaimed RPG from 2015 The Witcher 3, in a video during Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar.

"Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious," CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski said. "Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it's very appealing to players, not only RPG players — but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. It's handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay."

"Great game, more ambitious than Witcher 3, and we believe that we can aim [at] more ambitious business goals as well — of course, still having gamer-centric focus and quality focus as a main priority," he explained.

Fiz um new game e logo me readaptei:klol

CD Projekt RED has announced the opening of a new studio located in the city of Wroclaw in south-western Poland.

CD Projekt RED Wroclaw will join forces with CD Projekt RED Warsaw and Cracow to bolster the development of the company’s upcoming futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077.

The new studio is made up of 18 talented industry veterans, with the Wroclaw-based developer Strange New Things forming the core of the team.

Find comments from CD Projekt RED below.

Adam Kicinski, President and Joint CEO of CD Projekt Capital Group

“Wroclaw is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced cities in Poland and a playing field for serious creative talent. I think the scope of our current and future projects, as well as the overall package we’re bringing in, will pull in people who were hesitant to move to Warsaw or Cracow The founding dev team of CD Projekt RED Wroclaw is already pretty stellar, but I still can’t wait to see what talents we’ll discover in new people along the way.”

Pawel Zawodny, Head of Studio at CD Projekt RED Wroclaw

“We’re pretty hyped to be on the spearhead of this new office We know Wroclaw inside out and it’s an amazing place to make games. The team is strong, and I’m sure we have both the experience and the creative firepower to make Cyberpunk 2077 an even better game.”

Adam Badowski, Game Director for Cyberpunk 2077 and Head of CD Projekt RED

“Aside from their immense technological knowledge and artistic flair, the core team of CD Projekt RED Wroclaw are just great people. CD Projekt RED is not a typical game developer — we put gamers, creative freedom and quality games above making business. These guys not only share this approach, but, much like the rest of the team, think that this attitude is essential to creating epic video games.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is “Very Advanced” Technology-Wise; Character Creation, Classes, and More Confirmed

Cyberpunk-ds1-670x377-constrain.jpg" data-src="https://cdn3.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Cyberpunk-ds1-670x377-constrain.jpg" data-lb-sidebar-href="" data-lb-caption-extra-html="" data-single-image="1"> Cyberpunk-ds1-670x377-constrain.jpg

During CD Projekt’s fiscal year 2017 financial presentation, President Adam Kiciński mentioned that he’d “terribly” like to say something about Cyberpunk 2077, but today is not the time.

When asked when we’ll know more, Kiciński commented that he can’t just announce the announcement. Pressed further on what will be showcased at E3, he mentioned that it will be announced “just before” the show.

Ultimately, Kiciński did end up talking a bit about Cyberpunk 2077.

An analysis firm recently suggested that the game could be a cross-generation project involving the next round of PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Asked to comment on this, Kiciński explained that the next generation has not been announced yet, so he can only speculate. Technologically-wise Cyberpunk 2077 is “very advanced.” The studio’s tech is “ready to interface with future generations.” The game is developed in such a way that it can take advantage “of future, very powerful” hardware.

Kiciński confirmed that it’ll be possible to create your character and choose among various classes. This pretty much denies a wild rumor that was spread on youtube a few months ago, alleging that the studio had moved to a different design with no classes.

Asked whether there will be multiplayer, he confirmed that first of all, the studio is going to deliver a huge story-drive single-player role-playing game as it was the case for The Witcher 3.

As for the possibility of adding multiplayer in expansions, he mentioned that he does not like to comment on that, but he won’t say that it’s not going to happen, as the developer already mentioned in the past that they want future projects to include online components at some point.

Asked whether the developer is considering the Battle Royale genre for Cyberpunk 2077, Kiciński explained that at the moment they’re considering everything and anything but as of today they’re not discussing the game yet. The first thing they’re actually going to discuss is the immense story-driven role-playing single player experience without any microtransactions whatsoever, or any hidden payments, just as it was the case for The Witcher 3, even if it’s going to be a very different game, with no predefined character, a futuristic world, and 3D movement.

We also heard that the inclusion of Geralt of Rivia in SoulCalibur VI has no “financial incentive” for the studio, but it’s a promotional effort.

Asked whether the studio is considering the Nintendo Switch as a platform, Kiciński responded that when talking about CD Projekt’s larger games they’re focusing on the strongest platforms like high-specs PCs and consoles. As for other games, they’re not planning any release on the Switch for now, but they’ll see what the future brings.

Cyberpunk 2077
  • Jogo provavelmente estará na E3, sendo que dirão o que será mostrado antes do evento. Mas não querem confirmar ainda;
  • A campanha é single-player e está sendo bastante cara desenvolvê-la. Será a primeira coisa a ser mostrada;
  • Multiplayer pode ser adicionado após o lançamento, mas não querem falar sobre isso agora. Tudo está sendo considerado, até mesmo um modo Battle Royale;
  • O jogo possui um criador de personagem e você ainda pode selecionar a sua classe;
  • O estúdio não pode comentar oficialmente sobre a próxima geração, pois ainda não foi anunciada, mas garantem aos investidores que o jogo estará a nível dela (é possível que o game seja cross-gen, ou seja, saia para PS4 e PS5);
  • Não há microtransações para o single-player;
