CD Projekt Red marketed the presence of Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077 but they haven’t managed to show him in gameplay. In one of the recent Gamescom screenshots, he looked out of place in the real-time visuals for Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red has a history with downgrading their games. They did it with The Witcher 3 in the past when they showed a build of the game that was never possible to see in real-time. This early gameplay trailer was used to sell their game however once the launch started to get closer, a more realistic version of The Witcher 3 started to get more attention leading to the claims of a downgrade.
It looks like CD Projekt Red hasn’t learned their lessons because their most recent trailer for Cyberpunk 2077used a pre-rendered footage to heavily market the presence of Keanu Reeves in the game. CD Projekt Red so far has been reluctant to show Keanu Reeves in the real-time graphics however in the most recent Gamescom screenshots, he was briefly visible at one point.
If you are hoping that Keanu Reeves looks like his CGI counterpart, this doesn’t appear to be the case so far judging from the short glimpse of him that have been shown in the various footage. First, it was briefly teased in a short gameplay clip posted after E3 and then he can be seen again in the Gamescom screenshots. This time, he is a hologram but that doesn’t hide how horrible and out of place he can look in the game.
This is still an early look though and it is possible that he won’t be as bad as he looks in these two separate screenshots. In one of them, he can be seen hanging next to a display and this one appears to be his actual model. In the second screen, this is a hologram for his character but it looks terrible and out of place.
Cyberpunk 2077 was confirmed for April 16, 2020, and will be out for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Google Stadia. CD Projekt Red is also releasing The Witcher 3 Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch which is due out in October this year. It was ported by Saber Interactive with the collaboration of CD Projekt Red.
