Next Generation consoles – both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett – are just around the corner.

Sony and Microsoft have recently shared some information regarding these new consoles. One of the biggest tidbits is that both consoles will support SSD storage. SSD will allow for very fast load times and less stutter in games but it looks like that’s not all.

In an interview with Pcgameshardware.de, Phil Spencer says that Next Generation developers will be able to use SSD as Virtual RAM:

“Thanks to SSD speed, developers can now practically use the SSD as Virtual RAM. The access times of the SSD approach the memory access times of the current generation of consoles. Of course, the OS has to allow the developers appropriate access that goes beyond that of a pure storage medium. But then we should see the address space to increase immensely – comparable to the change from Win16 to Win32 or in some cases Win64.”

“Of course, the SSD will still be slower than the GDDR6 RAM sitting directly on the die. But the ability to directly supply CPU and GPU via the SSD will allow for the creation of game worlds that will not only be richer, but more seamless as well. Not only in terms of pure loading times, but also in terrain mapping. A graphic designer no longer has to worry about when GDDR6 ends and when the SSD starts. “

It all sounds great and I sure hope a lot of devs will take advantage of this new feature.

Xbox Project Scarlett has been confirmed to release Holiday 2020 so it’s not that long of a wait anymore.

Star Citizen Producer Joins Playground Games For Its Next RPG Title

Playground-Games-RPG.jpg

Star Citizen Producer Matthew Lightfoot has joined Playground Games for its upcoming RPG game. Rumored to be Fable 4, for this new RPG game Playground Games has been on a hiring spree.

Matthew Lightfoot joined the development team last month as a producer for the upcoming RPG game. Matthew worked as an Associate Producer before being promoted to Producer role at Cloud Imperium. Lightfoot was at Cloud Imperium for 4-years to develop Star Citizen.

Playground Games has been at the helm of this RPG ever since the cancellation of Fable Legends three years ago. Many rumors and reports point to Fable 4 but this could very well be a brand new IP from the creators of Forza Horizon 5. Over the last two years, the studio has hired talent from BioWare, Motive Studios, Guerrilla Games, Ninja Theory, and Rocksteady Studios.

Developers who worked on Horizon Zero Dawn, Grand Theft Auto 5, Hellblade, and Metal Gear Solid are coming together to create Playground Games’ next AAA RPG game.

Playground Games Studio Director Gavin Raeburn stated the following when asked about the development team they are putting together.

"I’m really pleased with the quality of the team we’re building here at Playground. We continue to attract world-class talent from around the world thanks to our exciting projects and the passion of our team. It’s been a fantastic start for our second studio and I look forward to seeing it continue to grow over the coming months."

At this point, it is safe to say Playground Games’ role-playing title is going to be exclusive to Xbox Scarlett. Of course, hopes for a cross-gen release aren’t dead especially when you consider the recently released Xbox One X. The console will be supported by Microsoft for a few more years but the same might not be true for Xbox One and Xbox One S.

In related news, Playground Games RPG isn’t the only title in development. We were recently able to confirm that the studio is working on the next Forze Horizon game. Former Rockstar Lead Tester joined Playground Games to create Forza Horizon 5.

This is the official Project Scarlett description. It shows the focus on BC & the importance of having a Halo game available at launch with Halo Infinite, something that hasn't happened since Halo Combat Evolved on the Original Xbox:

Pro lugar o Shawn Layden, já pensou? :P

Over the past few weeks, we have been keeping an eye on Playground Games, especially the staff it is hiring. There are two games in development at the studio right now – Forza Horizon 5 and an RPG game. This new RPG game is putting together a strong development team that consists of former Rockstar devs, and veterans from Cloud Imperium. The game has been in development for at least a couple of years at this point and we are fairly certain that it is an Xbox Scarlett launch window title.

So it is odd to know that Playground Games’ new RPG title is still in the “early stage” of development. Playground Games is looking for a lead UI engineer who will join the project at the early stages of development, says the job listing.

"Playground Games is looking for a Lead UI Engineer to join our brand new open-world action / RPG development team. You will join the team and project at an early stage, giving you the rare opportunity to shape the technology used to build a large-scale AAA title.

Your expert grasp of the challenges involved with developing the user interface for a AAA game, along with your ability to get the best from a team of developers will see you setting the direction for the UI and related technology. Your eye for detail and your passion for working collaboratively with artists and designers will allow you to deliver a best in class immersive user experience on an exciting new title."

The fact that this game is in the early stage of development is mentioned twice in the job listing.

"This is an exceptional opportunity to join a team and project at an early stage, giving you the rare chance to shape the future of an exciting, large-scale AAA title from the outset. It will provide exciting new challenges for any experienced developer looking to further their career and create world class games."

It’s an interesting little detail that reveals Playground Games still has a long road ahead. The RPG, which is rumored to be Fable 4, might not release as a launch title for Xbox Scarlett. As the job listing mentions, it is a “large-scale” AAA RPG, and those take time to develop. Microsoft exclusive games have had a history of being mediocre so it must be important for them to take as much time with this one.

Since Forza Horizon 5 is also in development, it isn’t far-fetched to think it will be ready for Xbox Scarlett’s release.

After Tim Longo’s departure just a few months ago as Creative Director on Halo Infinite, it came as quite a shock to see that Mary Olsen, the Lead Producer, had also departed. Naturally questions began to arise around the state of Halo Infinite and rightfully so given it being the flagship launch title for the Xbox Scarlett next Holiday season.

John Junyshek, Community Manager for 343, provided some insight into the situation and why some of the headlines have been misleading. You can find the full post here, but here are the highlights:

  • Contrary to prior reports, Mary did not replace Tim after his departure as he was Creative Director and Mary was not involved in that capacity.
  • Mary’s role was to support multiple teams on deliverables, particularly relating to the campaign. But roles and responsibilities shift in time.
  • All of the teams inside 343 Industries are rallying behind Infinite to execute the vision for the title.
  • There is no creative dilemma nor writing on the walls.

Our Take

While we’re still slightly concerned, this is reassuring as Halo Infinite is one of our most anticipated titles and obviously a hugely important title for Xbox. We expect some news in the coming months on a multiplayer beta and we are certainly ready!

Parece politico brasileiro. So promete e nao entrega de jogos AAA.

E as experiência AAA single player no PS5.

Muita falacao e pouca acao.

Abandono a Microsoft.
So vale pelo hardware One X e Gamepass.

So falacao e pouco resultado.
