Para quem tiver algum tempo (e domínio do inglês), um video/podcast muito interessante sobre o processo de tradução/localização de jogos japoneses. Com participação do responsável pela tradução inglesa de JRPGs clássicos como: Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy XII.

Localization Controversy | A Discussion With Alexander O. Smith | State of the Arc Podcast

It seems that with every new Japanese game released here in the States, there's another controversy about the translation. Most recently, we saw this with Metaphor: Refantasio, but the same thing happened with Unicorn Overlord and many others. This is true not only for games but also for anime and Manga. So today, we brought in Alexander O. Smith, a professional Japanese-to-English translator and game writer who worked on games like Vagrant Story, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy XII, to set the record straight about the process of game translation and localization. Is the game industry plagued with "rogue translators" who are pushing their own agenda? Is censorship the issue? In this episode, you'll learn how and why these decisions are made and learn some REALLY cool behind-the-scenes info on how Final Fantasy X was translated!

Mais dois videos muito interessantes continuando o assunto (do primeiro vídeo do quote acima) sobre o processo de tradução/localização de jogos japoneses:

Have Translators Gone TOO FAR? | State of the Arc Podcast

How far is too far? If a translator tries to use common phrases and manners of speaking in the target language but does so at the expense of the source language's intention, who is to blame? We conducted an interview with Zakogdo over text and asked him some of these exact questions. Zakogdo is someone who talks about the localization of Japanese games on X and has gotten lots of traction this year by critiquing the translations of games like Unicorn Overlord and Eiyuden Chronicle. The interview was conducted over text, and we sought to find places of agreement and understanding.

Alexander O. Smith Returns to Discuss Localization | State of the Arc Podcast

Alexander O. Smith returns to talk game translation and localization. What words did he sneak into every Final Fantasy game that he translated? How would he have tackled current controversial translations? All this and more are discussed in this exciting episode of the Resonant Arc Podcast.

Top 10 Intros That Make Games LEGENDS | State of the Arc Podcast

The intro to art is often the most important part. Video games are no exception. If a dev team can pull off a good intro, they likely will be able to pull off a good game. To craft the perfect intro takes a lot of coordination between the directors, producers, musicians and the dev team. When it's done right, it almost always spells success for the rest of the game. In this episode, we dip back into many of the games we've covered on this podcast. Games like Xenogears, Bioshock, Vagrant story and more!

The History Of JRPGs | Ep.1 | What Was The First JRPG? (Ft. Pat Holleman)

JRPGs weren’t born where you think. We unpack the origins of the term, the genre, and the influences that defined it. In this episode of State of the Arc, Mike and Casen begin a multi-episode deep dive into the history of JRPGs—where the genre came from, how it evolved, and why it took the shape it did. We’re joined by Pat Holleman, author of the Reverse Design series and director of the indie RPG Quartet, whose research into genre origins helps ground this discussion in real historical context. If you enjoy deep-dive game design analysis and want to support future episodes, consider joining our Patreon. Thank you for watching and listening.
