Yes, you're reading that correctly. Syphon Filter, which launched on PS1 a whopping 23 years ago, is
officially getting a trophy list. Syphon Filter developer Bend Studio made the announcement last night, confirming that once the new PS Plus subscription service launches, Syphon Filter, which is included in the Premium tier, will support trophies — it even has a platinum!
Following this news, the Xbox side of the internet is now asking the question: Wouldn't it be cool if OG backwards compatible Xbox games included achievements?
Twitter is currently filled with Xbox fans calling on Microsoft to add achievements to OG Xbox classics.
There are so many excellent OG Xbox games that we'd love to see Microsoft add achievements to. Dead Or Alive, Jade Empire, Black, Morrowind, Timesplitters, Star Wars KOTOR, Splinter Cell, Psychonauts, Max Payne, Crimson Skies, Blinx. The list goes on and on — we'd even take achievements for Chicken Little!
While details are thin on the ground about Sony's plans to bring trophies back to older PS1 classics, if we were to take a guess, Sony is probably only going to do this with its first-party games, so it likely won't be for a lot of titles. If Microsoft was to bring achievements to original Xbox games,
and that's a big if, we imagine it would be along similar lines, which does limit the number of titles somewhat. Still, a boy can dream, right?
