Molyneux gets himself into trouble over Fable 2 honesty
Legendary Lionhead head honcho Peter Molyneux has defended his recent honesty over the quality of Xbox 360 exclusive Fable II, but admitted that it has got him into trouble with publisher Microsoft.
In a recent interview with CVG, Molyneux admitted that there are "low spots" in the upcoming RPG, and criticised the lip syncing, animation, navigation and much talked about dog companion.
When we quizzed Molyneux in an interview earlier this week, he defended his surprising candour and pointed towards a lack of trust borne out over false promises with Fable 1.
"The point is I'm not a PR man," he said. "I'm just a developer. And when you sit down opposite people, people like yourself, and they look you in the eyes and they say 'are you happy with absolutely everything in Fable II?', I can't hand on heart say that we have got a state of the art animation system. I mean our animation system's pretty good. If I compare it to any other game we did before it's stellar but is it the best it possibly can be? No. And we've got lots of excuses for that. Our animation is going on all over the world simultaneously and that's why we can't focus on one character.
"The main thing here is, if I sit in front of a game and pretend that everything is absolutely perfect and nothing is wrong then you're not going to be able to trust me. The trust that people had in me was perhaps betrayed a little bit with Fable 1 because people felt that I over hyped the game. It really was important to me to actually try and be honest, only show things when I could show things, and not spoil the story or give away features so that people couldn't have surprises when the game was finally out. I'd just be in denial to say that I think it was perfect."
Molyneux did, however, reveal that his frankness when it comes to his games has landed him in hot water with his paymasters.
"I get into an awful lot of trouble for that," he said. "Now Microsoft has put these PR policemen in the same room to make sure I don't trip over myself. I do feel a sense of responsibility to people."

ele admitiu que ha alguns problemas no jogo, e criticou a sincronização labial, animações, navegação e até o cão do jogo.
acontece que não um sou um homem de relações públicas, se alguém me perguntar se estou satisfeito com tudo em fable 2.... eu não posso em boa consciência dizer que a animação do jogo topo de gama, isto é, está boa, mas se compararmos com outra que já tenhamos feito, é a melhor, mas é o melhor que poderiamos fazer? não e nós temos montes de desculpas para isso, a animação por exemplo está a acontecer em todo o mundo, não nos podemos focar em apenas 1 personagem...
a questão aqui é, se eu disser que pretendo que tudo seja perfeito e que não haja nada de errado, depois o pessoal não vai confiar em mim, e essa confiança é muito importante para mim, eu só mostro as coisas quando posso mostrar as coisas, não quero estragar a história nem nada disso.
a confiança que as pessoas tinham em mim pode ter sido um pouco traida devido a fable 1, porque as pessoas acharam que eu sobrevalorizei demasiado o jogo, e revela assim que a sua honestidade não caiu bem na microsoft.
arranjei montes de problemas por causa disso, a microsoft agora tem uma espécie de policias de relações públicas semppre na mesma sala que eu para que eu não fale nada de mal.. eu sinto no entanto um dever de responsabilidade para com as pessoas.
