Interesting Things I learned from the Starfield showcase:
- You can seemingly build bases anywhere
- There is a cooking skill, and you can be a space chef
- You can start the game with a house and a mortgage
- You can visit our own local solar system and land on all the planets
- Character creation is incredible, backstories will be reflected within your playthrough and NPCs will comment on your choices
- Huge replicability factor
- Multiple religions in game
- Choosing one faction or religion may lock you out of the other choices content
- You can research new technologies, everything from spaceship and outpost tech to new cooking and upgrade recipes
- There is an endurance system, indicating you will need to eat and rest in order to gain endurance back
- You can pirate ships, disable their engines and board them
- There seems to be a crime and bounty system tied to specific factions
- Factions have territory, and some systems will be controlled by certain factions
- Over 1000 planets and moons, 100 systems
- GAS GIANTS ARE IN THE GAME
- Customize armor, ships, outposts, and weapons
- Weapon force depends on caliber and ballistic type
- Lasers are in the game
- Build and customize your ships including color, shape etc
- Hire crews for your ships and outposts
- Outposts will need to be defended by military you hire
- Cybernetics are in the game like
Cyberpunk
- Player outposts need power
- Outposts can produce goods via manufacturing
- Cities are huge and full of life and immersion
- Most buildings look enterable
- Raytracing seems to be utilized in Starfield
- Main quest seems to revolve around searching for strange artifacts that are "building towards something"
- These artifacts are scattered around the galaxy, some owned by collectors, others never discovered at all
- Lockpicking minigame involves choosing pin shapes to fit locks
