“It is not supposed to be a world that you recognize to Trojan horse themes that are in a real world in a fictional one. What is actual history and what is alt-history and things start to get blended in the middle.”
Damon Lindelof Declares HBO’s Watchmen Series Is About “White Supremacy”
Executive Producer, writer, and showrunner for HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series Damon Lindelof declared the series is about “white supremacy.”
Lindelof appeared at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Watchmen panel on Wednesday to discuss and promote the show. As reported by Deadline, Lindelof questioned, “What in 2019 is the equivalent of the nuclear standoff between the Americans and the Russians?” He answered his own question, “It is race and the police.”
Lindelof would then add, “There is no defeating white supremacy — it’s not going away. There are no easy answers and grandiose solution.” Lindelof would even add that the alt-history of the Watchmen series will begin to blend with our actual history.
According to Deadline, the show will see a “very liberal” Robert Redford as the longest serving President of the United States ever. They also note that Ozymandias, played by Jeremy Irons, is in seclusion. However, as you can see in the trailer, the newspaper reveals that Adrian Veidt aka Ozymandias is dead. The world apparently has also not developed the Internet or smartphones. The report also indicates that a “killer cult” has formed around the murdered Rorschach.
The series is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma and will focus on Regina King’s character who Deadline notes is a police officer in a world where cops wear masks. However, based on the trailer footage, King might be a little more than just a police officer as her character is seen wearing a very different mask compared to other police officers. The trailer also appears to show that King’s character is the wife of a police officer who was murdered by the Rorschach cult. It appears the cult targeted a number of police officers, and the police responded by hiding their identities with masks.
indelof did confirm once again that Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen series is canon to the show, “We are not going to mess with it, it’s canon.” Lindelof had previously detailed how the series is canon in a lengthy Instagram post detailing his vision for the HBO series.
The series is expected to debut in October. Along with Irons and King, the series stars Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

Prefiro esperar a série sair antes e avaliar a qualidade do produto do que me desesperar haha.

Isso eu digo também.HBO Knows Alan Moore Isn’t Happy with Watchmen Show
Alan Moore has always made it known that he is opposed to adaptations of his work. With HBO announcing its upcoming adaptation of Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen, executives might have hoped to change his mind on the concept. However, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has revealed that Moore's stance on adaptations of his work has not altered.
When Bloys was asked in a Television Critics Association Q&A whether Moore had become more open to new adaptations, Bloys replied that Moore remains "not thrilled" about the concept, and added that Moore would not be consulting on the show either.
While this news may not be surprising, it would have been interesting to see a version of Watchmen that Moore actively endorsed. Of course, when Zack Snyder's film adaptation of Watchmen was announced, Moore famously declared that he "increasingly fear[ed] that nothing good can come of almost any adaptation." Moore was also opposed to the previous films based on his work, V for Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Developed by Damon Lindelof, HBO's Watchmen stars Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, James Wolk, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon. The series will premiere this fall.
