The Rise of Skywalker Book Reveals Aren't Sitting Well with Star Wars Fans

Star-Wars-9-Book-Reveals-Star-Wars-Fans.jpg

The ongoing Star Wars drama continues, as fans respond to the various revelations that have come from The Rise of Skywalker novelization with an almost unanimous grumble. Star Wars fans have been calling out for answers to the several plot holes that were left gaping by the end of director JJ Abrams' finale, but now, they probably wish they had never asked.

"At this point, honestly, I just want to stop thinking about Rise of Skywalker, but dumb stuff keeps making headlines that I can't seem to escape."

Oh, dear. No doubt this particular fan's feelings towards the continuous announcements and disclosures courtesy of The Rise of Skywalker novelization are shared by many. Those who aligned themselves as 'Reylo' supporters began the backlash when it was revealed that the kiss between our hero Rey and the atoned Ben Solo was not romantic in any way and was, in fact, platonic.

"I can't believe we out here saying that kiss was platonic. I'm gonna have another depressive episode over f***ing STAR WARS."

One of the many big reveals in the novel sheds a lot of light on how Emperor Palpatine made his return to the world of Star Wars, cloning. Though some have found some closure, a lot of fans have continued to question exactly how him being a clone makes things any easier to comprehend.

"Okay, so she really IS a nobody!?! And if your grandfather is a "FAILED CLONE", wouldn't that make any offspring of his uhmm..unstable? I'm so confused."

There was also the recent reveal that not only was Palpatine a clone but that Rey's father was none other than a failed clone. Which makes her the offspring of a failed clone. When you put it like that it does all seem a tad over-complicated. Still, it could have been an interesting element had it been included in the movie everybody saw. Nevermind. Others have queried why exactly he would choose to continue to look like a decrepit, pale corpse rather than something more akin to The Rock.

"In the Rise of Skywalker novel, they explain that Palpatine is a clone holding the Empire's spirit. Well! That's fucking stupid! Why choose such a weak decrepit body when you could be jacked!?? #starwars #igiveup #toomanycooks."

The Rise of Skywalker left many very disappointed with how the Skywalker saga ended, even killing the enjoyment of the prequel trilogy for some, and for others their enjoyment of everything Star Wars.

"tbh tros left me so hollow and numb towards everything canon star wars that even if they've written totally different story in novelization, let Ben live, give him and Rey HEA, erased that dumb Poe's backstory and finally created some good plot for Finn I couldn't CARE LESS."

Surprisingly though, some have managed to find the good in the novelization, with some fans even declaring that it manages to make the movie better by giving everything further context and detail.

"Folks, this adaptation is indeed the good shit. Even if you've seen those snippets and "news" articles, the context added makes it more than worth picking up. I enjoyed the film (even with its flaws), but I suspect I'm going to love it even more thanks to this novel. #StarWars."

Finally, it would not be modern-day Star Wars without some mention of the adorable Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian.

"BREAKING: STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER novelization confirms the entirety of THE RISE OF SKYWALKER was a dream inside Baby Yoda's head, actual RISE OF SKYWALKER set to film next summer. "Ha ha, we got your asses GOOD," writes JJ Abrams in the novel's afterword."

The reveals are no doubt bound to keep coming as more story beats that were bizarrely left out of the movie continue to hit the internet. It would not be Star Wars without some sort of controversy splitting the fan base, and The Rise of Skywalker is well on its way to being the most polarizing of the lot.

:kclassic

Disney Plus Is Missing The Obvious, It Needs A ‘Star Wars’ Rey Skywalker Series

960x0.jpg

Rise of Skywalker

Disney is determined to make TV the future of Star Wars the next few years, after the missteps of the big trilogy and the success of The Mandalorian.

But what that means, so far, is a whole bunch of prequels.

We have The Mandalorian, set well before the new trilogy.

We have Clone Wars, set during the prequels.

We have the Cassian Andor series, set before the original trilogy.

We have the Obi-Wan series, set before the original trilogy.

And now we have Disney moving into this general “High Republic” era which is hundreds of years before that, along with rumors that it may do an “Old Republic” series or set of movies based on those games.

In short, I think Disney has become way, way too afraid of the future and the Skywalker saga after the end of the new trilogy.

960x0.jpg

Rise of Skywalker

If you watch the Force Awakens-Last Jedi-Rise of Skywalker trilogy, it becomes pretty clear that it’s one thing. An origin story for Rey.

By the time we reach the end, yes, she’s saved the galaxy like Luke Skywalker before her, and yet it’s clear that her journey as a new Jedi is just getting started. She has a new lightsaber, her own, finally, and she takes a new name to carry on the Skywalker legacy (a legacy Disney seems desperate to end).

The end of Rise of Skywalker feels like the beginning of a journey rather than the finale of one, and I think it’s a shame that it we went through all the events of the trilogy, including a dead Han, Luke, Leia and Ben Solo, and Rey doesn’t even really get to continue her story after all that.

I understand that this is what happened with Luke, too. But that was a different time. There was not going to be a Luke Skywalker Expanded Universe TV series back in the ’80s and ‘90s, so we just got books instead. But now Disney is very, very much interested in Star Wars TV, and a Rey Skywalker series focused mainly on her instead of a giant ensemble cast seems like a good idea to me.

960x0.jpg

The Last Jedi

I think there is a show to be made about Rey’s new journey as a true Jedi after the events of Rise of Skywalker. You could do it in a way that doesn’t require the cast of the last three movies to be around (occasionally cameos, at most, maybe, if Finn wants to pop in and say hi), but I definitely think you could make a story about Rey making her way in the galaxy, trying to figure out a way to rebuild the Jedi order in this new era, whether that’s finding a home base, finding force sensitive children and so on. This would not have to have an insane blockbuster budget. It would not have to have a massive cast, learning lessons from The Mandalorian. But I think Rey is the second most compelling character in the new trilogy (RIP Kylo), and that giving Daisy Ridley her own series that isn’t focused on saving the universe, and is instead smaller in scope and scale, is the kind of thing Disney needs to “redeem” the last trilogy and also have must-watch content for D+ that isn’t just prequel after prequel.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I would love to watch this series, and I suspect I am not alone.

Rise of Skywalker Available on Digital 3 Days Early For Coronavirus Quarantine
Disney will release Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Digital three days early as people are quarantined due to the coronavirus pandemic

Star-Wars-Rey-Skywalker-Scene.jpg

Disney will release Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Digital three days early for the coronavirus quarantine. The rapid spread of COVID-19 around the globe has obviously had a tremendous impact and is truly an unprecedented situation. As far as the entertainment world is concerned, sports leagues have suspended their respective seasons, movie release dates have been delayed, and productions of upcoming films and TV shows have been halted in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In most cases, there's no telling when activities will resume, as the situation remains fluid.

The United States declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency, and around the country schools and businesses are being closed. People are being advised to stay at home as often as possible, meaning they're going to have a lot of downtime the next few weeks. Disney is trying to make the best of the current circumstances by bringing some of their biggest 2019 blockbusters home a little earlier than expected. On the heels of the announcement Frozen II will hit Disney+ this Sunday, it's now been revealed the final chapter in the Skywalker saga will be in living rooms this weekend.

Originally, The Rise of Skywalker was going to be available on Digital Tuesday, March 17. But SWNN pointed out the release has now been moved up to Saturday, March 14. Screen Rant redeemed a digital code on Movies Anywhere, confirming the new date; check out a screen shot below:

Rise-of-Skywalker-early-digital-release-Movies-Anywhere.jpg

For now, American theater chains like AMC and Regal are staying open, reducing capacity by 50% in accordance with social distancing. But with most major studio releases now removed from the calendar and people across the country self-quarantining to prevent further spread of COVID-19, attendance at the multiplex is going to rapidly decline and there's no telling when things might improve. There's obviously an abundance of options for viewers to choose from at home (with a variety of streaming services, digital stores, and personal Blu-ray collections), but it's still a nice move on Disney's part to release The Rise of Skywalker a little early. Families can have fun marathoning the complete saga this weekend, and then explore the various Rise of Skywalker bonus features - such as the making-of documentary.

Movies like Star Wars have always been a form of escapism for the audience, allowing them to get lost in fantastical worlds and fall in love with memorable characters. Considering recent events, most people could use a dose of that escapism, which is what motivated Disney to move up the releases for both Frozen II and The Rise of Skywalker. It goes without saying there are far greater concerns today than what movies are available to watch right now, but there will be those who appreciate Disney's gesture and take solace in blockbusters with themes of hope and perseverance.

:kdiabo:kdiabo

..... ... Tenha o prazer em me xingar :coolface
