Panzer Dragoon Remake PC Port Report & 4K Screenshots

Forever Entertainment has just released Panzer Dragoon Remake on the PC. As such, we’ve decided to capture some 4K screenshots and share our tech impressions of it.
As its title suggests, Panzer Dragoon Remake is a remake of Panzer Dragoon that originally came out on Saturn. In case you are not aware of, this is basically an on-rail shooter. Players will pilot through seven unbelievably realistic levels ranging from tropical blue ocean cities to intricate subterranean ruins.
In order to capture the following screenshots, we used an Intel i9 9900K with 16GB of DDR4 at 3600Mhz. Naturally, we’ve paired this machine with an NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti. We also used Windows 10 64-bit and the latest version of the GeForce drivers. We’ve also included MSI Afterburner in our screenshots in order to give you an idea of the in-game performance.
Now while Panzer Dragoon originates from consoles, the game plays wonderfully with the mouse and keyboard. We did not notice any mouse acceleration or smoothing issues, and everything appeared to be working great. The game even displays proper keyboard on-screen prompts.
Ironically, this PC port is – functionally – better than a lot of other console ports that do not support mouse, have mouse acceleration issues, or do not display proper K&M prompts. MegaPixel Studio could simply recommend using a gamepad and call it a day. Some fans would even justify this decision, claiming that this is a console game and it plays best with a gamepad. Instead, the team went the extra mile and implemented proper PC controls, so kudos to it.
Unfortunately for fans of high refresh rate monitors, there is a 60fps lock. Still, the good news is that the game ran without any performance issues at all on our NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080Ti in 4K. As you can see, our GPU was used at around 40%. Thus, we can safely assume that the game runs smoothly on a variety of PC configurations.
All in all, Panzer Dragoon Remake runs like a charm on the PC. The game does not require a high-end PC, does not suffer from any stuttering issues, and works wonderfully with the mouse and keyboard.

The Panzer Dragoon: Remake release brings it to Steam and GOG today
The '90s never looked so good.

The
Panzer Dragoon series was born in the ’90s and came at a time when rail shooters were all the rage. The first game debuted in 1996 on the Sega Saturn and looked appropriate for that day and age. MegaPixel Studio, however, felt that the classic
deserved a facelift and another chance to resonate with modern audiences. Rail shooters do have a certain charm to them after all. Thus the
Panzer Dragoon: Remake was born, and the release day is finally here. Whether you choose to purchase it on
Steam or
GOG is up to you, but you can scoop it up for $22.49 USD (10% off) before October 2. You can also try it out if you’re lucky enough to get into
Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming Early Access.
The
Panzer Dragoon: Remake‘s key selling points are the updated graphics and controls, though you will also be able to pursue achievements as you play as well. This game is definitely going to be a trip down memory lane for many, but if you’ve never played a good rail shooter, you may want to give this one a go. It’s true that the game looks vastly different from the original, but if it’s realism you like, this will suit you fine. It still retains that retro feel, and the only thing MegaPixel did to alter the gameplay was to tighten up the controls and aiming. It runs very smooth now too, with modern framerate support and 1080p. Not bad for a game that’s nearly 25 years old.
Fly high and low in the skies
Another nifty thing about the release version of the
Panzer Dragoon: Remake is that it will work with modern controllers. However, for that full nostalgic experience, grab a Saturn gamepad for PC. Overall this iteration controls much better than the original, and it’s very responsive to input. So, go ahead and take up this old school challenge to see if your l33t 2020 gaming skills can match what the ’90s has to throw at you. There’s plenty of cool sights to see along the way.
