Wizards Of The Coast And Hasbro Digital Gaming President Resigns After Numerous ‘Magic: The Gathering’ And ‘Dungeons & Dragon’ Controversies

In a sudden staffing shake-up that will come as little to surprise to Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons players, after a brief, controversy-filled tenure of just two years, Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming president Cynthia Williams has announced her resignation from the popular game publisher. Williams’ exit was first disclosed on April 17th via an official corporate filing made by Hasbro with the United States Exchange and Securities Commission (SEC).

Therein, the company announced, “On April 15, 2024, Cynthia Williams, President of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Gaming, informed the Company of her resignation from the Company effective April 26, 2024. The Company is conducting a process to identify her successor, looking at both internal and external candidates.”

As noted above, though sudden, Williams’ exit is far from unsurprising.

Appointed to her now-former role in February 2022 after her predecessor, Chris Cocks, was promoted to his current position as Hasbro CEO, Williams’ time with the company saw the main division under her control, Wizards of the Coast, marred by near endless controversy.

In regards to the publisher’s popular Magic: The Gathering card game, under her leadership, the brand suffered such reputational disasters as the release of a set featuring race-swapped versions of classic The Lord of the Rings characters, a player being threatened with jail time after being accidentally-but-legally sold a then-upcoming-booster-box ahead of its street date, and the introduction of a product release schedule so constant – nearly one set every month – that players have found themselves avoiding buying any new cards whatsoever out of fear that they could be rendered worthless near immediately after purchase.

Meanwhile, Wizards of the Coasts’ other ‘big name’ title, Dungeons & Dragons, saw those in charge of its production decry white male players simply for existing, attempt to introduce a highly-predatory open game license, and make several ‘sensitivity’ and ‘diversity’-related changes to its core identity, such as the removal of the terms ‘race‘ and ‘half-species‘ from the game’s lexicon.

Further, in perhaps providing some insight as to why the publisher stumbled so much during her time in charge, as revealed by Williams herself in a 2022 interview with GeekWire‘s Thomas Wilde, rather than ensuring their products remained accessible, affordable, and compelling, her main leadership focus for Wizards of the Coast was instead the continued promotion of ‘diversity’ across both Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons.

“Since I got here, it has very much been about inviting more people to the party, and making sure that they found a space where they could express who they are,” she told Wilde. “Our games teach that diversity is a strength. D&D in particular will teach you that together, you can overcome tasks, challenges, or an adventure that you wouldn’t have been able to on your own.

“When you’re playing Magic, you’re seeing the diversity of the world, in the characters,” she added. “You see yourself. I love the stories of people playing Dungeons & Dragons and being able to express who they are in that game, which leads them to being able to express who they are in their real life. We’re very much cultivating that level of diversity as we’re inviting players in.”

Comic Industry Rattled As DC Comics Posts Disastrous Sales With A 25% Drop In One Year And Lowest Numbers To Bookstores Since 2004

The last several months have woken many up to the comic industry’s problems. Retailer Glenn O’Leary blew the doors off of the problems in mainstream comic book content and their “self-insert” characters, which was roundly mocked by industry professionals who felt threatened and identified with his statement. This was followed up by journalist Heidi MacDonald, laying out figures that Marvel and DC Comics were in trouble. Now, buried in another article, it appears DC Comics is in even worse of a position than we’ve suspected.

The writing’s been on the wall for some time. Comic book retailers are closing shops regularly. Marvel and DC Comics made moves to not even report their sales any longer. All while, the gatekeepers of the comic industry kept posting that there was nothing wrong and that sales were fine.

We’ve seen reports that IDW Publishing has laid off more than 40% of its staff in the last year, showing signs of wear for the second-string of mainstream comics as the heavily-licensed publisher under Heather Antos has circled the wagons around diversity hiring at the expense of their content quality. Meanwhile, smaller publishers like Aftershock and Scout Comics were outed as not even paying their creatives.

How does this impact DC Comics? In a recent interview, Batman writer Chip Zdarsky finally blew the doors off the comic industry collapse. He admitted massive issues were going on with the mainstream industry, saying, “The problems in comics are a myriad right now. There are so many ways that the industry is being harmed and is having trouble kind of recovering. It’s facing challenges.”

MacDonald’s shill coverage, one finds that sales have been on a steady decline since the pandemic, as comic readers have mostly gotten out of the habit of reading these books from Marvel and DC Comics after so many of their beloved characters had been changed to be unrecognizable to their classic forms, much of which has been pushing LGBTQ propaganda.

DC Comics has suffered worse than Marvel. With their Dawn of DC relaunch failing to garner much interest, fans seemed tired of having to completely reboot the DC Universe every few years. From New 52, to Rebirth, a third relaunch in just over a decade seemed like a good jumping-off point. Once DC Comics made changes to Superman, Robin, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and more to add homosexual virtue signaling, few wanted to continue with the lines. It’s been a running joke in the industry that Batman is the only thing DC Comics can sell anymore.

Sales figures have been confirmed to be in a state of decline, again in a ComicsBeat expose on the industry. Brian Hibbs released an annual report from Bookscan, highlighting sales in the industry to regular bookstores. While we still don’t have the accurate numbers for comic shops, this gives a bellwether as to where the industry is going.

In this expose, Hibbs writes that Marvel and DC Comics represent less than 10% of comic book sales, a shockingly low number for what many call the Big 2.

However, it gets worse for DC Comics, as he writes, “DC had a pretty bad year, with their lowest sales since 2004 – down 25% from 2022 in the bookstore market – even with their highest ever number of titles in the total list. In 2023 they had only 14 titles in the Top 750; in 2013, ten years ago, they had 130. That is a huge and troubling drop – but maybe laying off nearly your entire sales and marketing team is not a great strategy for growth? If someone had been been making a concerted effort to dismantle DC Comics, they couldn’t have been more surgical – luckily, DC still has talented execs like Marie Javins, Jim Lee, Annie de Pies and the rest of the staff who have thwarted those plans. And from what we’re hearing, 2024 will see some more moves to reverse this concerning trend.”

Amazingly, ComicsBeat writers can still spin this as “and that’s a good thing” as many mainstream articles try to mitigate the destruction of entertainment industries like comics at the hands of the woke. These are the same executives who initially led DC Comics into this mess. A new relaunch of a universe—as he’s alluding to with the Absolute DC line—might give a short-term boost but isn’t going to fix the comic industry problems.

DC Comics is on a death spiral, and unless they make wholesale changes to prioritize story and less identity politics virtue signaling at the hands of creators like Tom King or Tom Taylor, we can expect this sales decline will continue.

‘Pokémon GO’ Players Demand Niantic Reverse Newly Rolled Out Avatar Changes: “Why Y’all Make Everybody Ugly”

Pokémon GO players are not happy with Niantic and its newly rolled out avatar changes. Many of them are pointing out how ugly their avatars are and are demanding that Niantic reverse the changes.

Niantic announced the avatar changes on Wednesday April 17th writing on social media, “Trainers, your avatar can now look even more like YOU! We’re excited to announce that new avatar customization options are now live in Pokémon GO!”

In a blog post the company detailed, “Both your avatar options and the Style Shop have also received updates, allowing you to express yourself with more customization options than ever before.”

The company added, “Express yourself like never before with a range of new avatar customization options in Pokémon GO! Personalize your avatar with adjustable body weights, eye colors, and skin tones, plus new facial expressions and hairstyles.Hairstyles can be filtered by short, medium, and long options, so you can find the perfect ’do for you. A new section allows you to customize your avatar’s body with choices for weight, muscle, shoulders, chest, and hips. Advanced color options are now available for your skin tone, hair, and eyes. To access these updates, visit the Appearance section of the Style Shop. Keep an eye out for additional updates!”

Numerous players were not happy. Sumrtimelovin responded, “Please change it back. This update is just as bad as the remote raid nerfs. Y’all please change it back.”

Camprockgracie noted she would stop playing if the update was not reversed, “If they don’t change it back within one month I won’t be playing.”

NorsbyF responded to Niantic, “I can’t stop laughing looking at everyone’s hideous avatars 11/10 joke.”

“We are not androgynous,” wrote Tom DiMaggio.

RiaMcQuaid posted, “Please tell me how you think the new avatar looks better in any way.”

Pokemon6.png

GhastlyXashley sarcastically criticized the update writing, “So natural looking. I love it when my flesh clips through my clothing!”

Pokemon8.png

Kokopellikisses wrote, “REVERT! GO BACK! DELETE! Go fest ticket may be wasted because I’m not going if my avatar remains weird af.” She added in a follow-up, “Editing her was impossible, so I had to cover her up in as many clothes as I possibly could to hide her skin but then I noticed her hand. f meeeeee.”

AstroGiovannia wrote, “You’ve made our avatars into some creepy androgynous thing.”

JustGeneral77 replied, “It was 100% to appeal to trannies.”

Pokemon11.png

This was pointed out by YouTuber Melonie Mac back in March after a number of the avatar updates were being tested in various regions, but had not been rolled out globally.

X user Mangalawyer originally shared, “Pokemon Go company is ESG approved: -2024 changes: -Change the viscerocranium of the female -Remove chest -Modify Hip -Expand chin -Broaden their shoulders – Delete make-up.”

He added, “The industry has been pushing Androgyny specially oriented to male features for years. They hate woman.”

Mac responded to Mangalawyer writing, “None of this is about women, it’s the trans gaze. This update isn’t a relatable female frame. It’s straight up transgender.”

Pokémon GO developer Niantic has publicly supported transgender ideology since at least 2021 when they posted on X, “Learn more about one of our Niantic Local Business Recovery Initiative participants, RISE Hair Studio, an LGBTQ+ friendly hair salon whose mission is to lift others up!”

Niantic1.png

In May 2021, the company posted, “May is AAPIHM and we’re taking the opportunity to highlight some organizations we’re partnering with as part of our commitment to Stop Asian Hate. Meet APIENC — building queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander power through organizing in the Bay Area!”

Niantic.png

Later that month, the company posted, “Here’s another organization we’re partnering with as part of our commitment to Stop Asian Hate – meet NQAPIA who build the organizational capacity of local LGBTQ API groups, develop leadership, promote visibility, and more!”

Niantic2.png

In June 2022, the company posted, “This week’s Wayfarer Pride Month spotlight is Plaza De Chueca in Madrid, Spain. Hop off Metro Line 5 and end up in a boisterous town square filled with LGBTQ+ culture, pride, and spirit.”

Exclusive: Jon Favreau Unlikely To Continue Working On Star Wars Projects After ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Movie

The birth of The Mandalorian series put Disney+ on the map. But the era of believing they can catch Netflix is long gone, as are the days of Star Wars fan excitement surrounding potential stories ahead in a galaxy far, far away. For Jon Favreau, directing The Mandalorian & Grogu movie could be the end.

Before Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano, before The Book of Boba Fett landed with a thud, and before the thrill of seeing Luke Skywalker potentially train baby Yoda was all washed away, there was a kindling of hope for Star Wars. Despite the rapidly decreasing profits made for each of Disney’s Star Wars movies chronologically, ultimately leading to losses, Disney+ offered Jon Favreau a more pristine sandbox to play in. Significant options existed to resolve or “smooth out” problematic storytelling from a sequel trilogy that was muddled with a variety of competing visions that never came together cohesively. And even for those who continued to support Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, they did not yet have the data that Star Wars was failing to live up to its expected return on investment.

But in the last couple of years, any hopes that Star Wars might find a way to redeem itself have been ultimately squashed. Any thought that the franchise could somehow bring together fans of different aspirations has been squandered. The quickly lowering quality of Star Wars show after Star Wars show, the inability to bring a movie back to theaters, as well as franchise destructions of other Lucasfilm properties have all led to a wide-spread conclusion that Star Wars’ potential just doesn’t have the same cache it once did. If you doubt that statement, just check in with Star Wars’ merchandising partner, Hasbro, which has had to eliminate 20% of its total workforce as its toy lines struggle to find wanting consumers.

Yes, there are those who look forward to a second season of Andor, and I’m sure there are some fans an upcoming Acolyte television show made by former personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein, Leslye Headland. But their numbers are few. After all, we can demonstrably look at waning ratings for shows like Ahsoka or box office disasters like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. And that’s not even to mention other parts of Lucasfilm beyond movie and television production — do we really need to revisit the just-closed hotel experience at Walt Disney World that couldn’t even fill one-hundred rooms consistently?

So it is that the sun may be setting for Jon Favreau’s participation in Star Wars. For the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, he gave us some inspiring Star Wars to work with. Since then, Star Wars has been adrift in not just mediocrity, but downright dumpster-level bad writing and execution.

Now, according to our sources, we strongly believe that The Mandalorian Season Four has been cancelled — itself a victim of timing and Bob Iger’s demand to reduce Disney+ spending at every possible corner. And, also according to our sources (as well as steadfast research of our own), we can say that there are currently no plans for Jon Favreau to participate in Star Wars beyond The Mandalorian & Grogu movie in 2026. And trust us, we’ve looked. Yes, there’s one quote from Favreau in 2023, but our sources tell us this was his commentary on Lucasfilm looking to do the Rey movie before it was announced; it isn’t likely to be related to him continuing in any way.

“There’s definitely a conversation that’s going on. And then, also what happens after the sequel trilogy. Because the sequel trilogy only takes place over the course of a few years. And it’s a big thing on the screen, and it’s very eventful. But it is a relatively brief moment in history over the course of the thousands of years that Star Wars takes place. And so what happens after it is interesting too, and I know that there’s some discussion, exploration going on about what happens after it. So I think that there are certain markers that we have – it’s almost like studying ancient history, where you kind of know a few things that happen, but there’s a lot of murkiness in between, and we just don’t have archaeological evidence in the real world to know exactly what happened, so we kind of connect the dots.” — Jon Favreau via StarWarsNews.Net

A source for That Park Place put it this way:

“Favreau has had his fourth season of The Mandalorian, painstakingly mapped out, ripped from him. Now he’s making a movie out of the last two episodes he had planned. But they’re not even his. Dave Filoni has been brought in to “plus” those two episodes into something theatrical that can be tied into his Thrawn/Ahsoka story. Imagine being Favreau and you’re finishing out your contract with a movie and the guy in the cowboy hat with no theatrical experience is now co-writer and co-director. They might not call him a co-director yet, but I wouldn’t count him out given his position at Lucasfilm and his desire to build a resume in film.”

As of now there is no public statement on a season four for The Mandalorian. But there are also no production plans to which we’re aware — and we’ve been searching. Likewise, there are no public commitments to a fifth season or beyond. There are no known projects for Jon Favreau beyond the movie and there are no statements nor commitments from Favreau’s production company, Golem Creations Ltd. LLC, so far as we can tell.

How clean is the slate for Jon Favreau and his company? Well, the website doesn’t even go beyond a splash page.

And so, from the three sources we’ve spoken with, we’re inclined to believe that Jon Favreau and Disney don’t have much on the horizon for Star Wars beyond The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. Perhaps this truly is the beginning of the Filoni era… even in spite of how lackluster Ahsoka turned out to be for a man who was much stronger when writing for animation.

É tipo um time ganhar a champions league e o presidente do time solta "quer saber, a partir de agora eu vou escalar o time". Surreal a burrice e a incompetência dessa gente, como diabos chegaram onde chegaram?! :kkk

Antes, tínhamos personagens do sexo masculino e feminino.
