Disney Wants Brie Larson To Lead Their New Star Wars Trilogy

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson showed us her lightsaber skills over the summer when she checked out the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experience at Disneyland Anaheim and after channeling her inner geek once more a few weeks later with another photo of herself dressed as a Jedi, fans have begun to call for the actress to book a trip to that galaxy far, far away for real.

But what are the chances that Brie Larson will show up in a Star Wars movie? Well, she’s clearly a big fan of the sci-fi franchise, but given that she’s still busy preparing to lead the next Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s unclear if she’d have the time to hop on over to Disney’s other behemoth property. That being said, the studio would certainly be interested in having her on board if they can make it work.

Sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us Tom Welling was returning in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” Jonah Hill was signing on for The Batman and that The CW was developing an Arrow spinoff for Katherine McNamara, all of which have now been confirmed – have told us that Disney “really wants” Brie to take one of the lead roles in either Rian Johnson’s new Star Wars trilogy or the one coming to us from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

It’s unclear which one she’d appear in – if she’ll even travel to that galaxy far, far away at all – but from what we understand, the Mouse House would like to find a way to make it work and have her continue her MCU commitments while also being involved in Star Wars. And though that may not be possible in the end, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that things will work out.

Of course, this news comes hot on the heels of that report that Disney had begun to lose confidence in Brie and her Captain Marvel character. At the time, we stressed that that should be taken with a grain of salt given that it came from some dubious sources and while we can’t say for certain that it was false, it certainly seems that way now that we’re hearing the studio wants to work with her on Star Wars.

In any case, it’s possible that Brie, Disney and/or Lucasfilm will deny this if asked about it, but let’s not forget that Tom Welling denied he was returning for “Crisis” on several occasions, and we all know what happened there, right? And while things can always change, we have no reason to doubt our sources, given that they’re also the same ones who told us Marvel was developing She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel shows before the official announcements were made.

But we digress. For now, we can tell you with certainty that Disney would like to have Brie Larson take a lead role in one of their new Star Wars trilogies and as soon as we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Yep!

Star Wars: Disney+'s Obi-Wan Series Helmed by Female Director

ewan-mcgregor-obi-wan-kenobi-header.jpg

The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series has found a director from a galaxy that's pretty close by, actually.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deborah Chow will direct the series. She also helmed several episodes of The Mandalorian, another Star Wars spinoff that will debut on Disney+ later this fall. At the time of writing, it is unclear how many episodes she will direct. The series will see Ewan McGregor reprise the role following his major part in the prequel trilogy.

In addition to The Mandalorian, Chow's past credits include American Gods, Better Call Saul, Lost in Space, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Fear the Walking Dead and Reign.

“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told StarWars.com. "Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

The role of Obi-Wan was originally played by Alec Guinness in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. McGregor took up the role in The Phantom Menace and continued with the part through Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

While no additional details are available, Lucasfilm has ample source material to pull from when it comes to telling a live-action Obi-Wan story. The character played a major role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and his time in exile on Tatooine has been explored in numerous canonical novels and comics.

Written by Hossein Amini and starring Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi series will air on the Disney+ streaming service. No release date has yet been announced.

:klol

'Star Wars 9' Leaks May Reveal Rey's Shocking Ending in 'Rise of Skywalker'

Trying to dodge Star Wars leaks in the lead-up to The Rise of Skywalker’s release is about as difficult as successfully navigating an asteroid field, and this latest Episode IX leak may be the most explosive yet. Even if you’ve managed to stay spoiler free so far, this new rumor about Rey’s arc and the movie’s ending is almost too juicy to ignore. For everyone else, it’s just another piece of the rapidly assembling puzzle that is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The latest Episode IX leaks come from Making Star Wars, a trusted source for spoilers among the Star Wars community. In a series of YouTube videos, MSW editor Jason Ward has been breaking down all the latest rumors, and his newest video focuses on Rey’s journey throughout Rise of Skywalker, including two major moments and what could be the final scene of the Skywalker Saga.

The first pivotal Rey moment comes during a scene where our heroes face off against a giant sandworm in what sounds like a callback to the original trilogy. Here’s how Ward describes the scene, based on information from his sources:

Jedi healing powers? That’s pretty interesting. Now, here’s the second key moment, where Rey unlocks another, even more surprising Force ability:

So if these leaks are true, that means Rey will learn new abilities that lean both towards the Light and Dark sides of the Force. It’s almost as if she’s moved beyond the old binary of Jedi vs. Sith to some new, more balanced existence. Like, say … a Skywalker?

This brings us to the final scene of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker — at least according to Jason Ward. Apparently, the movie will return to where it all began, Tatooine. Our heroes visit the old Lars homestead where Luke grew up and look out over the planet’s twin suns. Then, this happens:

There are two ways to read this. Either Rey is actually a literal Skywalker and a relative of Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Kylo Ren; or, the term “Skywalker” will take on a new meaning by the end of Episode IX. That second option is the one we’ve been predicting ever since the movie’s title was revealed, and based on everything in this latest Star Wars leak, it makes a lot of sense.

If Rey masters both the Light and Dark sides of the Force, terms like Jedi or a Sith won’t apply. In that case, the best option would be to invent a new term for Rey and the next generation of Force users, and “Skywalker” just feels right.

Star Wars 9: 'Palpatine MADE Luke Skywalker attack Kylo Ren' – Horrifying revelation
STAR WARS 9: The Rise of Skywalker could explain one of the biggest controversies about The Last Jedi with the reintroduction of Emperor Palpatine

Star Wars 8 divided audiences. One of the criticisms levelled at Rian Johnson's vision by hardcore fans was a frustration that major and legacy characters suddenly behaved in ways that did not make sense. Most fans with any knowledge of the previous trilogies struggled with the idea that Luke would try and kill his own nephew. In his sleep, no less. This was mot the Luke that fans knew and loved. Unless, it really wasn't... New leaks link back to scenes from Star Wars: Battlefront II, which includes a major sequence where Luke tracks down and breaks into one of Emperor Palpatine’s secret vaults on the planet Pilio.

It contains a treasure trove of Force artefacts, one of which eagle-eyed fans already spotted in Luke's possession on Ahch-To in The Last Jedi.

What exactly does that compass do? There are theories it helped Luke eventually find the First Jedi Temple on Ahch-To. But what if Palpatine already had a deeper plan in place related to the compass and other items like it?

The possibilities are absolutely horrifying and also explain how the apparently dead Emperor has been able to keep influencing events across the galaxy all these years.

Even worse, it seems Luke might also have been under Palpatine's influence, which lead to the catastrophic events that destroyed his Jedi school and set Kylo Ren firmly into the arms of Snoke – and thus, presumably Palpatine.

Star-Wars-9-Luke-and-Palpatine-theory-1175211.jpg

Star Wars 9: Luke and Palpatine theory
Redditor NumeralJoker (via Inverse) just posted the superb explanation, linking back to that compass. It ties in with our existing knowledge that some Sith Masters had discovered the ability to transfer parts of themselves into inanimate objects.

Star Wars fans have already seen evidence of this in the most recent Darth Vader comics where Palpatine gave his apprentice the mask of the Sith Lord Momin, which was able to influence those around it and even take possession of them if they could be tempted to put it on.

The new theory says: "The Emperor deliberately planted the compass as bait to lure Luke in, infiltrate the Jedi temple's presence, and orchestrate Kylo Ren's fall. He influenced the device, and those near it.

"This was also what tempted Luke to kill Kylo, for only a brief moment, 'left with shame, and with consequence'".

Star-Wars-9-Luke-and-Palpatine-compass-theory-2046396.jpg

Star Wars 9: Luke and Palpatine compass theory

Did Palpatine really have such a precise ability to predict the future and plan for it?

Probably not. But the Aftermath novel confirmed the Emperor had laid numerous back up plans in case he was defeated. The entire First Order and the upcoming revelations about the red Sith Stormtroopers are all expected to be revealed as part of his machinations.

It is reasonable to suppose he seeded key places in the galaxy with items containing fragments of his soul which could then start corrupting and turning events to his advantage when they were discovered.

Fans were already expecting to see Kylo Ren somehow affected by Palpatine and possibly Rey. But Luke Skywalker too?

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19

Tava no outro tópico...

'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' is not repairing 'The Last Jedi,' insists JJ Abrams

69031fe0-e234-11e9-9d5b-8e73e0e8cecd

J.J. Abrams has opened up about following up Star Wars: The Last Jedi with The Rise Of Skywalker, insisting that he is not “repairing anything.”

Some Star Wars fans were furious with writer and director Rian Johnson’s treatment of Rey’s parentage and the fate of Snoke in The Last Jedi. But Abrams recently told Empire Magazine that he had absolutely no issues with incorporating and then building upon what Johnson had done in The Rise Of Skywalker.

“I never found myself trying to repair anything. If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people.”

8b9bf6e0-cb4f-11e9-acbf-c832ce952749

D23 EXPO 2019 - The Ultimate Disney Fan Event - brings together all the worlds of Disney under one roof for three packed days of presentations, pavilions, experiences, concerts, sneak peeks, shopping, and more. The event, which takes place August 23 - 25 at the Anaheim Convention Center, provides fans with unprecedented access to Disney films, television, games, theme parks, and celebrities.

“If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”

Of course, that’s exactly what Abrams had to do with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as the 2015 blockbuster had to expand upon the six previous installments to the Star Wars franchise.

Abrams has an even harder task with The Rise Of Skywalker, though, as he has to bring the Skywalker saga to an end after 40-years. We’ll see if he can do just that, while satisfying all of the Star Wars fans out there, when Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is released on December 20.

O primeiro Star Wars eu assisti criança.

@Goris , estou até reassistindo o documentário.

Mark Hamill rips Ivanka Trump photo of son in Star Wars costume: '#GoForceYourself'

“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill slammed the Trump family as frauds in response to a photo Ivanka Trump tweeted of her young son in a Stormtrooper costume over the weekend.

Ms. Trump, 37, tweeted a family photo Saturday of herself and husband Jared Kushner and their three children, with their 3-year-old son Theodore wearing a “Star Wars”-themed Halloween costume.

“The Force is strong in my family,” the first daughter wrote.

Mr. Hamill, a frequent President Trump critic who appeared as Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, responded by writing, “You misspelled ‘Fraud.’ #GoForceYourself.”

Mr. Hamill’s tweet racked up 85,000 retweets as of Monday but many comments criticized the liberal actor for politicizing the lighthearted photo. The Daily Beast’s Tom Sykes wrote, “It’s hard to make yourself look mean-spirited and intolerant next to the Trumps but, somehow, Hamill managed it.”

Mr. Hamill did not respond to the backlash.

‘Star Wars: Resistance’ Executive Producers Say Okra and Flix Are ‘Absolutely a Gay Couple’
Nature of relationship hasn’t yet been stated on the show

Okra-and-Flix-Star-Wars-Resistance-Bobby-Moynihan-Jim-Rash.jpg

Though it has not yet been expressly depicted on screen, according to the executive producers of Disney’s animated series Star Wars: Resistance,” two longstanding supporting characters are a gay couple.

The reveal came when Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman appeared on the “Coffee With Kenobi” podcast. The two said that the alien characters Okra, voiced by Bobby Moynihan, and Flix, voiced by Jim Rash, are “absolutely a gay couple and we’re proud of that.”

On the show, Okra and Flix are in charge of the Office of Acquisitions in the Colossus station where much of the action takes place. The nature of the characters’ relationship has never been described outright since the show premiered a year ago. But occasional moments like this one, where they take a break from running their business to visit Flix’s mother, at least have hinted, possibly, at something more than friendship.

Moynihan, who was also on the podcast episode, said he is “so happy we’re allowed to say it,” adding that “I have had a sentence prepared for a year-and-a-half if someone would finally ask me. I would say, ‘All I can say is when Flix says ‘I love you,’ Orca says ‘I know.’,” a reference to the iconic moment between Han Solo and Leia in “The Empire Strikes Back.”

It wasn’t stated whether or not the nature of Okra and Flix’s relationship will be stated outright in future episodes. To date, there have been no openly LGBT human characters in “Star Wars” films or television.

:kclassic

Star Wars Reveals XXXXXX Built The Empire, Not Palpatine

Emperor-Palpatine-and-Pitina-Voor.jpg

Whether or not Emperor Palpatine ever returns, there's no denying that his empire's greatest weakness was having HIM as a leader. Cruel, vindictive, hateful, and detested across the galaxy, it's a miracle Emperor Palpatine took as long as he did to lose all power. But now, Star Wars has revealed the woman who was actually keeping the Empire together all those years, despite its incompetent leader: Imperial Minister Pitina Voor.

Every fan is going to want to know the woman born Pitina Mar-Mas Voor, twenty-five years before Sheev Palpatine began his rise to power. Married to a lame duck bureaucrat in the Empire's ruling class of competing officers and governors, Pitina saw history repeating itself. That below all the bravado, intimidation, and posturing... the expansion of the Empire through brute force was killing it even as it spread (running out of both soldiers and money). And Pitina just might have led the Galactic Empire to total success, if not for once crucial weakness: Emperor Palpatine had absolutely no idea how to lead.

Pitina offers her account in the pages of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #36 from Simon Spurrier, Cris Bolson, and Wilton Santos. She has reason to assassinate Palpatine, claiming it is all for the sake of the Empire. While others might have seen how doomed Palpatine was as a tyrant and worked the situation to their own benefit before the Empire collapsed, Pitina acted.

Star-Wars-Pitina-Voor-Comic.jpg

Encouraging her husband's suicide to spare himself a traitor's death at Vader's hand (which was not actually coming), Pitina claimed his position for herself. Acknowledging that Emperor Palpatine may have known the truth of her deception, he granted her influence and position anyway. Which is when she began to enact her true vision for the Empire's successful expansion. A system Star Wars fans (and fans of political history) will appreciate, since the three tenets she instituted are exactly how an Empire grows stronger through expansion, whether it's galactic or not:

Within a year I had established The Coalition for Progress and coined the Three Guiding Tenets of Imperial Outreach. First we show the people the face of chaos. The pirates, the raiders, the mobsters and the monsters. Some are real--most we invent. Anything to make the dumb natives beg for a garrison to save them. Next we show them how perfect their worlds could be in the Emperor's embrace. Such order, such calm! (I don't mind telling you: we've become extremely gifted at making false smiles look natural.)
And lastly? Oh--just a casual afterthought!--we conspicuously wipe a tear for the worlds that said 'No.' These days, two our of three conflicts resolve without a single shot fired. You understand? I have saved this regime. I have built a culture that transcends the clenched first. I have nursed this Empire with a lie, in the expectation that eventually it will become a truth: harmony and prosperity are the rewards of those who submit. And he. Is ruining. Everything.

Emperor-Palpatine-Failed-as-a-Leader.jpg

The plan outlined by Pitina can be seen throughout the Star Wars saga, being enacted at different stages on numerous worlds. On the one hand, it explains why the Empire made so many backroom deals with warlords, crime bosses, and pirate gangs--since they created the very threats the Empire promised to eliminate through total submission. But all that work is for nothing if you have a leader who looks every bit the villain he truly is, and who torments, kills, and crushes as he desires. That's the kind of tyrant who inspires rebellion with every people and world he dominates--meaning he has nobody to blame but himself for his own destruction.

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #36 is available now from your local comic book shop, or direct from Marvel Comics.
