Primeiro decidi ir no google para ver se por algum motivo o google só está mostrando imagens de negras como sereias, e para a minha surpresa não. Segundo, sereias não existem, e como toda criatura mitológica pode ser branca, azul, preta, mais humana ou mais monstruosa. E finalmente terceiro, se existisse realmente sereias elas seriam pálidas, pq a pele delas não ficaria exposta ao sol. E não seriam nenhum pouco bonitas e não se assemelharia tanto a humanos como no caso da pequena sereia.

The 2020 Emmys TV Ratings Crashed - And So Did Its Relevance

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 18: Emmy Host Jimmy Kimmel takes a brief break center stage in the round during rehearsals Friday for the 72nd Annual Emmy Awards taking place at Staples Center this Sunday.​

The 2020 “virtual” Emmy Awards telecast, carried by ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, hit an all-time TV ratings low at 6.1 million U.S. viewers (UPDATED from 5.1 million originally reported), a decline from last year’s 6.9 million viewers. You would think that an awards show would be a nice change for stuck-at-home audiences. Not so. And while it might be easy to claim that this was due to the virtual nature of the show, it is actually more reflective of a decades-long decline in Emmy viewership which is down from the 2010 telecast’s 13.5 million viewers and the 2000 telecast’s 21.8 million viewers.

The Emmy telecast is not alone in becoming increasingly irrelevant over the past decade. The 2020 Oscar telecast dropped 43% from 41.7 million viewers in 2010 to 23.6 million viewers in 2020.

Three critical factors have resulted in this downfall, and they are not the uneven quality of different hosts, scripted jokes, the production values, or the football games that have aired opposite the show each year. Yes, those can raise and lower ratings from year to year. But there are far more long-term, fundamental factors that account for the massive march toward irrelevance.


The Cable Problem
First, cable and satellite subscriptions are down by about 20% since 2010 as more people have dropped them or never signed up for them in favor of streaming services. So TV ratings have dropped across the board for all the networks - ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox - that have carried award telecasts. This may account for slightly less than half of the massive decline we see in award show viewership over the decades.


The Show Proliferation Problem
Secondly, there are too many shows to watch today, so many people have not seen the nominated series which depresses interest in award shows. In 2019 there were 532 scripted series, up from only 216 in 2010. This results in lower audience viewership per show. For example, the 2010 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series included Glee which boasted 9.8 million viewers, Modern Family which averaged 9.5 million viewers, The Office which averaged 8.7 million viewers, and 30 Rock that captured 5.9 million viewers. In comparison, the 2020 nominated comedy series The Good Place only averaged about 3.5 million viewers, the Season 3 premiere of Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was watched by only 3.2 million viewers in its first week, and this year’s big winner was Schitt’s Creek which interested only about 500,000 people for its final episode. While some of the shows nominated for Outstanding Drama Series can boast high viewership, such as Ozark, Stranger Things, and The Crown, they were beaten for the top honor by Succession which only attracted about 600,000 viewers per episode.

The Oscar telecast suffers from this same popularity gap. Many films that get nominated for Best Picture are often not among those with the highest box office results. I have written various articles over the years that advocated for a Best Blockbuster Oscar to boost award show interest while recognizing blockbuster filmmakers, but my pleas have fallen on deaf years (see previous article).


The Political Divisiveness Problem
The final key factor in audience decline is political. A 2017 study conducted among 800 people by the National Research Group discovered that 68% of Trump voters disliked political speeches at the Oscars, so much so, that 66% of them have turned off the TV set because an actor gave a political speech at the podium. With the country split into nearly two equal fractions, award shows that include political statements from the hosts and winners alienate half of the potential audience. The recent Emmy Awards was no different with overt and subtle, scripted and unscripted comments about the current administration in Washington. Oddly, research revealed that entertainers who deliver divisive political comments actually hurt their cause (see previous article). Yet, the Emmys and the Oscars appear to be happily trading their relevancy for their activism, a self-inflicted wound.

Ironically, when you consider that viewership for the Emmy telecast has decreased significantly to only about 6 million today (UPDATED), we need to wonder if a large chunk of those who still watch are employed by the industry. That appears to be true. A 2018 study by the Motion Picture Association of America estimated that the number of people economically supported by the U.S. film and television industry is approximately 2 million, 33% of the Emmy telecast (UPDATED), and that does not yet include their family, friends, and associates who watch in support.

Unfortunately, award show viewership decline is probably irreversible. In a very short time, the entire audience of award shows may consist primarily of those who work in the entertainment industry and their loved ones. The Emmy coordinator might as well rent a stadium, invite them all, and ditch the telecast altogether.

Supergirl will be taking her last flight. The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions just announced that the drama series starring Melissa Benoist will conclude with the upcoming sixth season, set for premiere on the CW in 2021. It is the second series from the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following Arrow, which wrapped its eight-year run last season.

Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Supergirl had been targeting a later start of production to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. I hear the series is slated to begin filming in Vancouver on September 28, pending a deal with the local unions to comply with SAG’s testing guidelines, which has been a sticking point for a number of Hollywood productions there. The series would initially be filming around Benoist who would join the production later, I hear.

Between the delays and Supergirl’s downward ratings trajectory, I hear the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season. (See Benoist’s reaction to the news below.)

The creative team has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes. The order is expected to be longer than most broadcast series this coming season, including the CW scripted shows, which will be launching in January and beyond.

Supergirl, starring Benoist in the title role, debuted in October 2015 on CBS before joining The CW lineup for Season 2 in October 2016. The most recent Season 5 also starred Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair and David Harewood, with special guest star Jon Cryer.

In Season 5, Supergirl faced threats, both new and ancient. National City became enthralled with addictive virtual reality technologies created by CatCo’s charming-but-secretive new owner Andrea Rojas (Gonzalo), which enable people to bury their heads in the proverbial sand. As Kara used the power of the press to try to expose the danger, she was forced to contend with challenges put up by rival reporter William Dey (Nair), renegade Martian Malefic J’onzz (Phil LaMarr), a shadowy organization called Leviathan, and the shocking return of Lex Luthor (Cryer) who, in addition to his plot for world domination, sought to claim the soul of Supergirl’s best friend — and his sister — Lena.

Based on characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Supergirl is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller and Rob Wright.

Rumor: Black Panther Actor and Anti-Police Advocate Michael B. Jordan To Play Reimagined Tony Montana In A Scarface Remake

A new rumor claims that Black Panther and Creed actor Michael B. Jordan will play a reimagined Tony Montana in a Scarface remake.

The rumor appears to come from the All Love Hip Hop Twitter handle, who write, “Michael B. Jordan has reportedly been casted to play ‘Tony Montana’ in the new Scarface remake.”

Newsweek also reported on the rumor stating, “Most recently, Michael B. Jordan has been rumored to play the titular role.”

Deadline reports a reimagination of Scarface has been in the works since 2011 when directors David Ayer and Antoine Fuqua were attached. Most recently they reported that Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino was set to direct the reimagining back in May 2020.

Guadagnino will reportedly work off a script from Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, who Deadline claims have been on board the project for at least three years.

This reimagined Scarface film will reportedly take place in Los Angeles, a shift from the first 1983 remake that took place in Miami and starred Al Pacino as Cuban gangster Tony Montana.

The original film titled Scarface: The Shame of the Nation was released in 1932 from directors Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson based on the novel by Armitage Trail and a screen story from Beh Hecht.

The film starred Paul Muni as Tony Camonte, Osgood Perkins as Johnny Lovo, and Ann Dvorak as Cesca Camonte. It saw Tony Camonte carry out a hit on the head of the bootlegging crime syndicate on the south side of Chicago, Big Louis Costillo.

Following the hit, Camonte becomes the second man to Johnny Lovo. However, Tony has big ambitious and quickly begins disregarding orders from Lovo and begins encroaching on the turf of an Irish gang led by a man named O’Hara. He continues taking out the competition as he plans to take control of not just the south side of Chicago, but the entire city.

However, Camonte’s downfall might actually be due to the two women in Tony’s life that include Johnny Lovo’s girlfriend, Poppy, who Tony is attracted to and his willful younger sister Cesca, who Tony forbids from going out on the town and dating men. However, she refuses and this flusters Tony and makes him vulnerable to his opponents which includes rival gangs and the police.

Jordan is no stranger to playing race-swapped roles. He will star as Irish American John Clark in the upcoming adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. He also played a race-swapped Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four remake.

Jordan has also recently come out as an anti-police advocate penning a roadmap for the Color of Change organization that calls for Hollywood to “divest from the police.”

In a letter promoting the roadmap, Jordan alongside with Rashad Robinson wrote, “The history of racism in Hollywood is long and unforgivable: excluding Black talent, silencing Black voices, derailing Black careers, and using both the economic and cultural power of the industry to prop up police departments and the status quo of the criminal justice system.”

Jordan and Robinson continued, “We can break the pattern, and change that trajectory. The understanding of Hollywood’s impact on society has never been more widespread, and the demand for addressing systemic racism in Hollywood has never been greater. We must answer the call to action.”

The roadmap includes four steps, the first being to “divest from police.” The other steps include investing in anti-racist content, investing in black talent and careers, and investing in black communities.

Isso é simples, querem usar o nome friends para chamar atenção, só isso.

Nada impede fazer uma sitcom com amigos negros, mas com o nome friends a atenção vai ser enorme, até pq o roteiro não tem como ser o da época, o mundo é diferente hoje sem contar que friends mal tem uma história

Acham mais fácil vender a série com o nome friends do que conquistar o publico zero, como How I Met Your Mother fez ( para mim melhor que friends em um todo, tirando o final terrivel, horripilante da série ), só que ao usar o nome friends a comparable vai ser pesada, vai ter que ser algo muito bom para não tomar pedrada.

E se não fizer sucesso irão jogar a culpa nos outros, acusando de racismo.

Alvo de polêmicas nas redes sociais e críticas por transfobia, a escritora JK Rowling usou sua conta no Twitter para fazer propaganda de uma loja com conteúdo explicitamente transfóbico. Nesta terça (22), ela publicou uma foto de uma camiseta com os dizeres "This witch doesn't burn" ("esta bruxa não queima", em português) com o link para a loja.

Abaixo do tweet, que foi fixado no perfil com mais mais de 14 milhões de seguidores, ela continua: "Se você é (ou conhece) uma bruxa que gostaria de uma dessas, não compre de oportunistas cínicos. Comprei minha camiseta na Wild Womyn. #ApoieNegóciosEncabeçadosPorMulheres".

Alvo de polêmicas nas redes sociais e críticas por transfobia, a escritora JK Rowling usou sua conta no Twitter para fazer propaganda de uma loja com conteúdo explicitamente transfóbico. Nesta terça (22), ela publicou uma foto de uma camiseta com os dizeres "This witch doesn't burn" ("esta bruxa não queima", em português) com o link para a loja.

Abaixo do tweet, que foi fixado no perfil com mais mais de 14 milhões de seguidores, ela continua: "Se você é (ou conhece) uma bruxa que gostaria de uma dessas, não compre de oportunistas cínicos. Comprei minha camiseta na Wild Womyn. #ApoieNegóciosEncabeçadosPorMulheres".

No catálogo da loja Wild Womyn, descrita em seu Twitter oficial como "a loja favorita da feminista radical", 52 produtos estão à venda sob a categoria "gender critical". Entre eles estão camisetas, bottons, canecas e quadros com textos como "notória transfóbica", "f*dam-se seus pronomes", "ativismo trans é misoginia" e "mulheres trans são homens".

A autora de Harry Potter tem sido alvo frequente de críticas por seus posicionamentos em relação à causa trans. No mês passado, ela devolveu o prêmio Robert F. Kennedy de Direitos Humanos após ser criticada por Kerry Kennedy, presidente da fundação que organiza a premiação.

Em junho, a escritora ironizou no Twitter uma reportagem que usava o termo "pessoas que menstruam" em vez da palavra "mulheres". O texto, porém, referia-se especificamente à distribuição de absorventes para populações vulneráveis durante a pandemia, grupo que pode incluir meninas, homens trans e pessoas não-binárias.
