We recently came across some
strange store activity that could suggest Microsoft is making more games backwards compatible. Now, we've spotted another two Xbox 360 titles on the Microsoft Store with the backwards compatible ID.
In our previous story, we found that
seven original Xbox games, including one OG Xbox launch title, had been added to the new Microsoft Store from the old Xbox storefront. They were all listed with an odd November 30th release date, but their listings were swiftly removed. Now, two Xbox 360 titles have appeared on the Microsoft Store, and after digging through our data, we've found that these games have been tagged with the backwards compatibility "Fission" ID. Fission is the name of the Xbox 360 emulator that allows backwards compatible games to run on Xbox One and
Xbox Series X|S consoles. Unlike the previous listings we found, there is no release date for these games, other than their original launch dates.
The two new potentially backwards compatible titles are
The First Templar and (brought to our attention by Cheevo Guides on
Twitter)
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Both titles, which were not backwards compatible games, now have their own Microsoft Store pages that are still live and list the titles as playable on
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.
At the moment, we can't say for certain that these games will be made backwards compatible. It could simply be Microsoft testing something out, but these, along with seven original Xbox games found previously with updated listings, are definitely raising a few eyebrows. Maybe Microsoft will be announcing a new batch of backwards compatible Xbox titles to mark the 20th anniversary of Xbox? We'll keep you updated if we spot any more Microsoft Store changes.
